Australia's Leading Wine Supplier

Australia's Leading Wine Supplier

A small, family-run winery named for the pimpernel flowers that grow among the vines. The grapes are dry-grown and hand-picked, and the family bottle and label every wine themselves. This is one of the most intimate – and unhurried – tastings you can have in the Yarra Valley. This stalwart winery has some of the oldest vines on the Mornington Peninsula, and some of the most impressive dining. Although the restaurant was originally built to help showcase the maturing range of wines, it's since grown an esteemed reputation of its own. In addition to the main bar area is a spacious courtyard and a private living room-style space. Go and see it -  pavie 2015. There's no shame in loving a budget bottle of wine, but drinking it could impact your health. The cheaper the wine, the more arsenic it's likely to contain — a major buzzkill, considering arsenic is a highly toxic, known carcinogen. Profit margins on alcohol can be extremely thin due to heavily regulated wine.

Food is by the accomplished Ali Currey-Voumard , and the menu changes daily based on seasonal produce – although it tends to err towards comforting French classics. Like the rest of the menu, the cheese changes regularly, with one to three options available. You can expect the likes of a slightly sweet Mossvale Blue or a Jean Perrin Secret de Scey .
Kirks Wine Bar, which opened in 2015, is a welcome change from the aggressive, tourist-focused eateries that dominate much of Hardware Lane. While not as beautiful as some other wine bars, Kirks' blend of old and new creates an irresistible energy.  One of life's greatest pleasures is sitting on one of their outdoor tables in the summer and sipping a glass of Chardonnay slowly. Kirk's Wine Bar uses the tagline "in vino veritas," which translates to "the truth is in wine." You can tell they mean business if they say it in Latin. Marion is equally committed to its food as it is to its wine, taking on the guises of a market, bakery, and bar based on the time of day.
